After what felt like a lifetime of waiting, Finchel and Klaine fans were finally treated to the episode they had wanted for so long: both couples taking the next step in their relationship and having sex. Although the subject matter was quite controversial, I was very impressed with the way Glee handled it. And I know Finn and Rachel fans are still squealing after last night’s events. At the end of the day, you realized that the story was a simple one about two people who love each other and showing that love in a way that they’ve never experienced before.
Aside from the first time drama, we were treated to the opening night of West Side Story. I, for one, loved the way the musical and discussions about the other big night planned were interwoven. The performances were all fabulous! I only wish we’d gotten to see more of what went on in the much-hyped school musical, especially more with Rachel as Maria. Speaking of Rachel, let’s dive in to what I loved from Ms. Berry this week:
Favorite Rachel Performance: West Side Story
I admit it, I’m cheating for this review. I couldn’t bring myself to pick just one of her performances. The A Boy Like That duet with Santana was amazing. Her duets with Blaine on Tonight and One Hand, One Heart were beautiful. Best of all, each performance advanced the story, which is something Glee’s song choices have lacked in recent years.
Favorite Rachel Quote: “I’m going to give you something that no one else is ever going to get.”
Pretty much summing up tonight, Rachel told Finn just how much she cared about him and that she was giving him her virginity, something no other guy would ever get. Finchel’s bond is now stronger than ever.
Favorite Rachel Moment: Consoling Finn
Once Rachel finally realized the error of her ways in trying to sleep with Finn just so she would be perfect in the role of Maria, she went to his house to apologize–only to find out that the football recruiter Finn had hoped would recruit him hadn’t payed him any attention. This led to an intense conversation between Finn and Rachel, with Finn lamenting how much of a failure he was. Luckily, Rachel was there to help remind him how special he is to her and to promise that she would help him find a new dream. It was poignant, special, and intimate. Which is why I was definitely okay with this leading up to Finchel’s biggest moment to date. You could tell that this scene cemented them as a couple and that now they are tethered together forever.
Favorite Rachel Outfit: Bow Tie-Back Dress
I absolutely adore the color of this dress, so feminine and so perfect for Rachel! Thanks to FashionOfGlee.com, we even got a look at the back of this dress, bows! Even more perfect for her!
Final Thoughts: After a lackluster comeback with ‘Pot O’ Gold’, I was pleasantly surprised with ‘The First Time’. Besides the Finchel scenes, we were given sweet moments with Klaine, Tina, Artie, Beiste, and even Karofsky. Although many of those characters have been overlooked recently, it was nice to see them all involved in the action and to have their characters get their moment to shine.
Next Week: It’s New Direction vs. The Troubletones in what is sure to be the Glee Club Smackdown of the century!
